Prime Minister Narendra Modi is gearing up for a high-profile five-day international tour from June 15 to 19, with official visits to Cyprus, Canada, and Croatia, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Saturday.

The multi-nation diplomatic mission marks a historic milestone, as PM Modi will become the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Croatia, underscoring India’s strategic push to deepen engagement with the European Union and Mediterranean region.

Cyprus: Reinvigorating Ties After Two Decades

PM Modi’s tour will begin in Cyprus on June 15–16, where he will hold bilateral talks with President Nikos Christodoulides in Nicosia. This visit will be the first by an Indian PM to Cyprus in over 20 years, and it is expected to rejuvenate bilateral ties on trade, culture, and political cooperation.

In addition to official engagements, PM Modi is scheduled to address a gathering of business leaders in Limassol, aiming to boost investment and economic partnerships between the two countries.

The visit also holds strategic significance, with Cyprus recently condemning the terror attack in Pahalgam and voicing its commitment to raise the issue of cross-border terrorism at the EU level. With Cyprus set to assume the EU Council Presidency in early 2026, India’s outreach is being seen as a timely diplomatic move.

G7 Summit in Canada: India’s Voice on the Global Stage

Following the Cyprus leg, PM Modi will head to Kananaskis, Canada, on June 16–17 to participate in the G7 Summit. This will be his sixth consecutive appearance at the influential gathering of world leaders.

The summit will offer PM Modi a platform to engage in critical discussions on global challenges, with a special focus on:

  • Energy security

  • Technology and innovation

  • AI-energy nexus

  • Quantum computing and emerging tech

In addition to the summit sessions, bilateral meetings with leaders of G7 countries and international organizations are on the cards. While the exact schedule is still being finalized, sources say Modi is likely to meet key counterparts to bolster India’s multilateral and trade partnerships.

Historic First Visit to Croatia

The final stop of the tour will be Croatia on June 18, marking the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Balkan nation.

At the invitation of Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, Modi will hold bilateral discussions aimed at expanding cooperation in sectors like technology, renewable energy, tourism, and pharmaceuticals. He is also expected to meet President Zoran Milanović, cementing diplomatic relations at the highest levels.

This visit to Croatia, long overdue, is seen as a follow-up to a previously planned tour in 2022 which was cancelled due to India’s Operation Sindoor, a humanitarian evacuation mission.

Diplomacy in Action

With the backdrop of shifting global alliances and growing geopolitical challenges, PM Modi’s three-nation tour reflects India’s ongoing strategy to position itself as a global leader and trusted partner. From reaffirming cultural and political ties in Cyprus to making history in Croatia and addressing pressing global issues at the G7 Summit, the tour aims to further elevate India’s stature on the world stage.

Stay tuned for more updates as the Prime Minister embarks on this landmark diplomatic journey.
