The recent terror ambush on Army personnel in Jammu & Kashmir's Pahalgam has reignited political tension in Parliament, as the Congress-led INDIA bloc took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Monday's Monsoon Session, questioning the nation’s internal security and foreign policy stance.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi led the charge in the Lok Sabha, citing the tragic loss of lives in the July 19 terrorist attack and questioning the effectiveness of PM Modi’s foreign policy, especially in light of previous statements made by former U.S. President Donald Trump. Trump had once claimed he was approached by PM Modi to mediate in the Kashmir issue—remarks which were denied by India but never fully clarified by the Prime Minister himself.

Opposition MPs protest in Parliament over the Pahalgam terror attack, demanding answers from the government on national security and Operation Sindoor.

“Trump openly declared that Modi requested his mediation over Kashmir. Why hasn’t the Prime Minister refuted this on global platforms? Today, even Trump says the situation is worsening and ceasefire agreements are failing,” Gogoi declared in Parliament, also referencing the 2021 ceasefire pact between India and Pakistan.

The Congress party called for an explanation regarding the delayed appointment of a full-time Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) after General Bipin Rawat's passing and demanded clarity on how the government plans to bolster India’s border security.

Senior Congress leaders Renuka Chowdhury and Randeep Surjewala echoed similar concerns. Chowdhury questioned the absence of strong diplomatic responses, while Surjewala demanded accountability for the rising violence in the Kashmir Valley. Syed Naseer Hussain, another key opposition voice, criticized the Election Commission's silence on seat allocations favoring the BJP in recent bypolls in Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the BJP defended the government’s position, stating that “Operation Sindoor”, launched post the Pahalgam attack, is yielding results with intensified counter-terror efforts in the region. Security forces have been engaged in continuous combing operations to track the perpetrators of the deadly ambush, in which five soldiers were killed and several others injured.

Despite the opposition's criticisms, the ruling government maintained that India's defense and diplomatic strategies remain firm and resilient.

As Parliament continues its Monsoon Session, national security and Indo-Pak relations are expected to remain hot-button topics, drawing intense scrutiny from all sides.
