The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced a cost-effective initiative for private vehicle users—a ₹3,000 annual highway pass. This pass allows up to 200 toll-free trips per year on national highways and expressways, aiming to reduce long-term travel costs for frequent travelers.

Key Features of the Annual Pass
The pass is exclusively for private cars, jeeps, and vans.
Users can make 200 trips or travel for 1 year, whichever limit is reached first.
No need for repeated Fastag recharges during the validity period.
State highways, malls, parking lots, and toll roads managed by state governments will continue to operate under the standard Fastag system.
NHAI’s Cost-Effective Move
Virender Sambyal, Regional Officer for NHAI Chennai, clarified that this scheme targets only national highways and expressways under central jurisdiction. The move is expected to benefit daily commuters, long-distance travelers, and private vehicle owners who frequently use national highways.
Benefits for Travelers
Saves money on repeated toll charges.
Reduces transaction time at toll booths.
Encourages more people to choose national highways for regular commutes.
With this annual pass, NHAI is pushing for smoother, cost-friendly road travel while still maintaining standard toll systems on other road types. This plan is part of a broader effort to enhance the convenience of India’s road transport network.
