After a brief spell of sunshine, Mumbai was battered by intense overnight rains that left several parts of the city waterlogged on Monday morning. The abrupt deluge led to major disruptions in traffic and slowed down the city’s fast-paced routine.

According to civic officials, low-lying zones across both the island city and its eastern and western suburbs bore the brunt of the rainfall, which began late Sunday night. The Andheri subway was closed for vehicular movement due to excessive water accumulation, while commuters struggled through traffic snarls on the Eastern and Western Express Highways.
Local train services, the city’s lifeline, also experienced minor delays during peak hours, compounding commuter frustration.
Rainfall data collected in the 24 hours ending 8 a.m. revealed varied intensities: the island city received 23.45 mm, eastern suburbs saw 36.42 mm, and the western suburbs recorded 50.02 mm of rain.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued cloud cover and intermittent rain for the next 24 hours, warning of possible thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds at isolated spots.
High tides added to the woes, with a peak tide of 3.91 metres occurring at 9:19 a.m. Another tide of 3.38 metres is expected at 8:37 p.m., while a low tide of 2.28 metres is predicted at 3:03 p.m., civic officials noted.
This unexpected bout of monsoon fury comes after several days of dry weather and serves as a reminder that Mumbai’s rainy season can turn disruptive without warning.
