Telangana political leader K Kavitha has criticised her former party, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), for boycotting the ongoing session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly. She described the decision to stay away from the House as a “serious political mistake” and said it weakened the opposition’s ability to hold the government accountable on key issues.

K Kavitha addresses the media in Suryapet, criticising the BRS party’s decision to boycott the Telangana Assembly session.

Kavitha, who has been at odds with the BRS leadership and is no longer with the party, questioned whether the boycott decision was taken by senior leader T Harish Rao personally or by the party’s high command. She said the absence of the opposition allowed the ruling party to make statements without being effectively challenged on the Assembly floor.

Criticism of the Boycott and Democratic Duty

Addressing the media in Suryapet, Kavitha argued that opposition members should remain inside the House to debate, question and expose misleading claims made by the government. According to her, withdrawing from proceedings at a time when important matters were under discussion was detrimental to democratic responsibilities.

She also pointed out that the Assembly session included discussions on Krishna river water sharing, an issue of significant concern for Telangana. Kavitha said the boycott deprived the state’s representatives of a proper platform to press for the state’s interests in water allocation and related disputes.

Allegations and Broader Political Points

While focusing on the boycott, Kavitha also raised broader concerns about governance and development in the state. She accused both the Congress government and BRS leaders of failing to address issues such as corruption, infrastructure neglect, and water shortages in certain districts. She demanded administrative action to resolve these problems and said she would continue her work through her organisation, Telangana Jagruthi.

Kavitha insisted her criticism was not personal but aimed at strengthening democratic accountability and public interest, and reiterated that she had tendered her resignation from the MLC post on moral grounds. She added that she planned to remain active across Telangana to highlight issues that affect ordinary citizens
