The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has condemned a recent proposal by the Telangana Congress-led government to reorganise the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), alleging that the plan aims to remove the historic name and identity of Secunderabad.

BRS leaders say the move would erase Secunderabad’s unique history and civic legacy, arguing that the city is more than just an administrative unit. Founded in 1806, Secunderabad has served for over two centuries as the twin city of Hyderabad with its own distinct culture and identity.
Speaking on behalf of the party, BRS MLC Sravan Dasoju described the proposal as “cultural vandalism” rather than genuine administrative reform. He criticised the decision as unilateral and lacking meaningful public consultation or stakeholder engagement.
The BRS has demanded that the government halt the reorganisation effort, warning that the party would lead a mass movement to defend Secunderabad’s identity if necessary.
